The students and staff at S. Anselms school in Bakewell collaborated with James Lewis of Bamfords Auctioneers and Valuers to raise a staggering £200,000 for charities protecting the wild life of our world…The Born Free Foundation amongst others. This World Record Breaking Event for the longest solo auction (24hrs) grabbed the imaginations of the children and took them to far off places this term as it was the basis and finale for their Project lessons.
James Lewis bought the auction from the Auction House to Holme Hall for an evening of entertainment and more bidding. The children re-enacted songs from their school play ‘The Lion King’, and further entertainment came from celebrated flautist Eliza Marshall and opera singer Phoebe Suzanne Eley.
My son Zach has been lion mad ever since this project started at he beginning of term and he has absolutely loved the bed time stories of Elsa and her cubs by Joy Adamson. It was a pleasure to meet Virginia Mckenna who was so incredibly kind and enthusiastic to the pupils in receipt of a book which they had created.
Indeed, a magical evening, and a magical project. It really has ignited the appreciation of just how magical(!) this planet is and has sparked the desire to preserve it.
